God is the lock
but the interpretations is the key
the confusion comes when we
put God in a box
but if he is omnipotent
why do we inflict the box
on everything He represents
so if we are created equal
why doesn't the constitution have a sequel
how is the constitution even legal
because this gift to uplift
is far from 3/5th
Choosy Lovers choose Jif
Like Spinxx said
we get pimped for peanuts
but it ain't all butter
me and my constituents all came from the gutter
we waiting for our ship to come in
I'll be damn if somebody ain't trying to break the rudder
I was destined to utter these words
since I left my mother's udder
No brothers just sisters
My brain blisters
from thinking about hot lyrics
tapped into the spirit
with a cold flow
It don't matter how much dough I fold
I'm concerned with this world
I want my seeds to grow old
I want their cheese to grow mold
and to serve God while their young
so the walk will prepare them
when they get old
We been trying to come up
since our forefathers were sold
like sacks of crack
whips placed to backs
at high velocity
this atrocity
could possibly
be the missing link that's stopping me
from conquering my future
They give us band aids
but know damn well we need sutures
So God is locked in hardened hearts
Sold souls are only good for parts
they must know how it ends
because they don't want us to know how it starts
Angels and Demons
Spiritual chess
this is the critical test
I wear my faith like a vest
Shoot me with your best
But they aiming for our heads
Predatory to my salvation's prey
we pray for salvation
hoping predators are slayed
but we resurrect them
when we neglect to give God the respect
only call for God when you waiting on a check
Get your spirit in check
Mind check
Body check
Soul check
It's time to operate in full armor
Rotation 360° degrees
Peep Karma
I used to be roasting at 360 degrees
stagnated
My stigmata is a tragic saga
A lot of us
believe what they told us God was
Na'll cuz
I'll feel him in this blood rail
I get down tooth and nail
Not arrogance
I just know the truth can't fail
My soul speaks of an old tale
Syndicated through slave trades to crack sales
from the baby shower
until your last hour
The devil trys to devour what's in your helmet
check your head
this is where you and hell met
trust and believe and believe in the trust
before I return to the dust
I gots to have chuuch
But don't pass the plate
pass me your love
Feel this armor
this is what God feels like.

- Def Poet who expounds upon his life's experiences through detailed poetic illustration.

To think of the term abyss one may reflect upon the idea of being wicked with darkness.

Well, Derrick "Abyss" Graham brings about spoken word with a deep, dark message that is delivered with the wittiness of his tongue.

The Detroit native is able to expound upon his life's experiences (be it good or bad-yet true) through a detailed poetic illustration. The words that he spits are his depictions of common everyday life-with a little flava.

Abyss travels in life includes eight years of service in the United
States Navy. While serving the seas of Uncle Sam, he dreamed of being able to display his lyrical performance by way of radio, television or whatever the necessary medium his persona would allow.

With that drive and determination, Abyss put his pen to paper and began noting his lyrical knowledge while living in the Jacksonville, Florida area where he was introduced to spoken word by the Positive Third Entertainment Group. Abyss was able to drop some knowledge and begin a fan base; however, he understood that in order to cone his craft relocation was inevitable.

Hotlanta anyone? Yes! Atlanta is where Abyss was able to develop and mold his stage presence. Abyss was more or less one of the pioneers for spoken word for he proved that there is a market for this art and validated his point by continuing to write, display ideas and take the initiative to scout different avenues for potential growth.

Now that I have your attention, understand this:
Abyss' poetry is real.

It is also easy to hear and understand. He writes from the heart and soul of a man in tune with his inner self. Writing is a reprieve from the ills of the world that is ultimately responsible for his craft. It is his belief that only the strong survives-everyone does not make it.

After reading some of his scribes know that it can possibly help
somebody who is looking and listening for something or someone to relate to the (their) struggle. Abyss is a hit on stage because he hits your mind, body, and soul with a powerful message. That is why the name Abyss (it gets deep) is so fitting. Life does get deep and Abyss can use his lyrical tongue to make those elements of darkness bring about light.
